Chuc mung nam moi – Gung hay fat choy (Happy New Year)

Me in Gassho

Dear Friends,

Today I spent the morning with my Wife’s family as we went to their Vietnamese Buddhist Temple for Chinese New Year/Tet. This is the year of the Black Metal Rabbit. One of the things we did at the Temple was doing the fortune sticks. You hold the container in your hands, tell Kuan Yin who you are, your birth date and your wish, and then you start to shake the container until one stick falls out. Then you remember the number printed on the stick, and you go inside the Temple and tell the Monk your number and he will give you a sheet telling you your fortune for the year. My wife and I both got good numbers and good fortunes. After that we then sat down to a hot bowl of Vietnamese Noodle Soup. Even though it was vegetarian it was really good.

We then took a bunch of family pictures in front of the altar, and then went home. That was my day with the LU Family.
